Do you plan to make an informed vote in Canmore’s upcoming Oct 18 municipal election?
If you’re sitting on the fence then you better take a close look at this newspaper ad, taken out by Council hopeful Hans Helder. It is cause for concern.
In it, Helder simplistically accuses you and anyone else who opposed TSMV’s development proposals last winter of exacerbating Canmore’s affordability crisis by decreasing housing supply. He fails to mention the other complex issues that caused so much concern to our community (doubling our population, inadequate wildlife corridors, lack of indigenous consultation, financial and liability risk to the Town) and selectively ignores what the hearings highlighted so clearly: that the 20% affordable housing figure being thrown around was not a guarantee. The proposals could have resulted in zero vital housing for the community.
Is this the kind of bizarre, selective logic you want on our next Town Council?
If not then it’s time to get informed.
You can start by attending the All Candidates Forum on the Environment scheduled for this Wednesday night at 7PM on Zoom (sign up here).
BVE will also be coming out with short video interviews with most candidates in the coming days.
We’ll also publish a comparative chart of candidates’ answers to ten questions you helped us select very soon.
In other words, we’re going to help YOU get informed so YOU can vote for candidates who represent YOUR values and views.
The countdown to October 18 begins!
Sign up for Wednesday night’s forum and stay tuned for more information soon.
Have a great day!
