TSMV’s proposals to double the size of Canmore have evoked the largest outpouring of concern our community has ever known.
Number of written submissions so far: 1,329
Percentage opposed: 92
Number of oral presentations at the public hearing so far: 247
Percentage opposed: 95
Thank you Canmore citizens for the countless hours and days you have spent informing yourselves about these audacious proposals, and for your courage to speak against them. The quantity of submissions is unprecedented; the quality is unbelievable. Tomorrow is the 6th and final day of the Public Hearing, the longest on record. Here are just a few of the many noteworthy presentations from yesterday:
Future Generations: We were in awe of Lindsey Marchessault — a new mother of just 7 days — who spoke passionately for the future of her children in the Bow Valley.
A Legal Lens: John Martland considered the legal risks to the Town if they were to accept the TSMV proposals.
Cumulative Effects: Melanie Woods delivered a highly visual and alarming presentation about all the other development that has already been approved but has yet to be built around Town. Enough is enough!
No Guarantee of Affordable Housing
Steve de Keijzer pushed Mayor Borrowman to admit the Town can’t enforce any of TSMV’s promises of 10% affordable housing. If TSMV’s past track record of unfulfilled promises is any indication, this is highly concerning. You’ll want to watch right to the end of this one!
If you’ve been waiting to submit a written comment you need to do so now as the period to do so closes tomorrow. You can use our handy Write Council portal on our website but please add some of your own words and concerns, especially at the beginning.
Have a great evening!
