Can we do it? Can we send Town Council a strong message and force Canmore’s longest public hearing, ever, next week?? If you haven’t done so, you need to sign up to speak at the March 9th Public Hearing about TSMV’s plans to double the size of our town.
We know public speaking is terrifying for some. That’s why we created a Citizen Toolkit for the Public Hearing on our homepage to help you prepare. And, because the Public Hearing will be a virtual, Zoom event, you’ll have the advantage of speaking from the comfort of your own home. Heck, you can wear pajama pants if that’s what works best for you.
Still a little overwhelmed with the prospect of speaking? You don’t need to speak long. A minute or two to say you are against the proposals, and why, is all your community needs right now. This isn’t about being an expert or delivering a Shakespearean soliloquy, it’s about being a citizen. It’s about making your voice count.
As a reminder, here are the main requests to make of Council:
-
Do not expand our Urban Growth Boundary;
-
Do not change our Conservation of Wildlands zoning;
-
Do not change Recreation and Golf District zoning that acts as a buffer to an otherwise compromised wildlife corridor on the heavily undermined, unfinished golf course;
-
Do not increase the number of allowable residential units as stated in Bylaw 1-98;
-
Use zoning to mitigate wildlife corridor pinchpoints that were approved by the Province but are not based on the latest, independent science.
If you haven’t submitted anything in writing, time is running out to do that as well. Our letter-writing portal makes it easy for you to do so. Write something AND speak at the Public Hearing. And tell your friends and neighbours to do the same.
You have less than a week to weigh in on the direction your community takes over the next 30 years. The time for action is now!
