Great letter writing! Almost 300 notes of concern about TSMV’s proposal to double the size of our town have now been sent through our Take Action portal and more than a hundred more outside of it. Has any other Canmore issue ever received so many letters of concern? It would be interesting to know… Please keep them coming – they are having an impact, especially when personalized with your own words.
Meanwhile, the official review process reaches a major milestone tomorrow (Feb 9) when Town Council gives First Reading to the TSMV proposals . This is the stage where the 2017 TSMV proposals got rejected last time. Will Council reject them again? Will they ask for significant amendments? In our new Q&A page we conclude that many of the same concerns that caused Councillors to reject them last time persist in the updated proposals that sit before them now.
We also address many other questions that are floating around the community: Can the Town reject the ASPs outright? (yes); Can they improve an inadequate wildlife corridor if it’s already been approved by the Province? (yes); What is an Urban Growth Boundary and why is it a Big Deal to move it? Check out the detailed answers, some stories about past precedents, and more great questions and answers here.
And remember to mark down the evening of Feb 23, 7-9PM on your calendar. We have lined up some great expert speakers who will come into your home (via your computer) to help you prepare for the public hearing scheduled for March 9 via Zoom. Further details coming next week.
It’s great that so many of you are engaging. Momentum is definitely building, decision-makers are taking notice, and we are empowering ourselves and our community when we step forward and say we care.
